Your privacy is important. This page explains the data that is collected from site visits.
Any comments you leave on HotWhopper Blog and HotWhopper Chat (inactive at present) and are considered to be in the public domain. This privacy policy applies solely to information collected by HotWhopper websites.
As with most websites, HotWhopper uses cookies for statistical and other purposes, such as checking comments for spam and sockpuppetry. The aggregated information collected also helps keep the site focused on what readers are interested in. Aggregated (non-personal) stats can include the number of visits, popularity of particular articles, topics and pages, and any problems with our web design (broken links etc).
A number of individual details may be logged when you visit HotWhopper, such as IP address, Internet service provider, the domain name and location of that computer, its operating system, and the type of computer or other device, and web browser. Logged data and traffic analysis is performed by services such as Google Analytics.
We are the sole owners of the information collected on this site. We only have access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via email or other direct contact from you. We will use your information to respond to you regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your information with any third party outside of HotWhopper, other than at your request, with your explicit permission, or if required to by law. Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email on occasion.
HotWhopper uses some advertising. It only pays pennies, but even pennies help toward the cost of running the site. (Blogger and Chat engines are free, but I pay for some web design and website features, webhosting, journal subscriptions and access to some of the scientific papers I write about.) The advertising is provided by third parties who may use information about your visits to this and other websites so they can provide advertisements on topics of interest to you. We only use reputable advertising services.
The advertising companies usually use "cookies". You can read about advertising cookies on Google's Advertising Policies & Principles.
To learn more about advertising and cookies, tailor your preferences, and/or opt out of the use of the DoubleClick and other cookies, go to Ads Settings and/or aboutads.info.
For more information about advertising-related data collection practices and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, see: http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/.
You may opt out of any future contacts from us at any time by contacting us via the email address below:

Sometimes people want to know more about me and what I've done, goodness knows why :0
In climate circles I've been Sou for so long it's who I am. People in other spheres know me as Miriam O'Brien.
Way back I earned a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours) at The University of Melbourne and an MBA from The University of Adelaide, though half of the latter was done at Monash University. I've also obtained a Farm Technology Certificate, half a wool-classing qualification, had 100% AI success rate (with the calf named after me), and received various other incidental learnings along the way.
My career took a number of twists and turns in the early days, including policy and planning roles with government. After that I spent many years as a management consultant. If you're curious, you can see a few more details at LinkedIn.
As well as learning and communicating climate science, my interests include photography, music and keeping fit (or avoiding becoming overly unfit).
The photo in the HotWhopper blog header (and above) is of one of the three major fires in the last decade that surrounded our town and destroyed huge areas of forest and farmland, caused the death of a firefighter and killed two local residents. Undoubtedly with CO2 greening, after excess plant growth followed by a dry spell and extreme heat waves, there will be much worse to come.
If you want to get in touch, give me a shout in the comments on HotWhopper blog, tweet @Sou_HotWhopper; or send me an email: Sou at HotWhopper dot com (replacing the obvious with the obvious).
