HotWhopper Privacy Statement

Your privacy is important. This page explains the data that is collected from site visits.

Any comments you leave on HotWhopper Chat and HotWhopper Blog are considered to be in the public domain. This privacy policy applies solely to information collected by HotWhopper websites.

Registration

In order to comment HotWhopper Chat (but not HotWhopper Blog), you must first complete the registration form. During registration you are required to give certain information such as your email address. This information is used to contact you if needed. At your option, you may also provide demographic information about yourself, but it is not required.

Statistics on web traffic

As with most websites, HotWhopper uses cookies for statistical and other purposes, such as checking comments for spam and sockpuppetry. The aggregated information collected also helps keep the site focused on what readers are interested in. Aggregated (non-personal) stats can include the number of visits, popularity of particular articles, topics and pages, and any problems with our web design (broken links etc).

A number of individual details may be logged when you visit HotWhopper, such as IP address, Internet service provider, the domain name and location of that computer, its operating system, and the type of computer or other device, and web browser. Logged data and traffic analysis is performed by services such as Google Analytics.

Information Collection, Use, and Sharing

We are the sole owners of the information collected on this site. We only have access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via email or other direct contact from you. We will use your information to respond to you regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your information with any third party outside of HotWhopper, other than at your request, with your explicit permission, or if required to by law. Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email on occasion.

Data for advertising

HotWhopper now uses some advertising. It will probably only pay pennies, but even pennies will help toward the cost of running the site. (Blogger and Chat engines are free, but I pay for some web design and website features, webhosting, journal subscriptions and access to some of the scientific papers I write about.) The advertising is provided by third parties who may use information about your visits to this and other websites so they can provide advertisements on topics of interest to you. We only use reputable advertising services.

The advertising companies usually use "cookies". You can read about advertising cookies on Google's Advertising Policies & Principles.

To learn more about advertising and cookies, tailor your preferences, and/or opt out of the use of the DoubleClick and other cookies, go to Ads Settings and/or aboutads.info.

For more information about advertising-related data collection practices and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, see: http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/.
