</a><br /><br /></b><blockquote><p>The embattled <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/environment/great-barrier-reef" rel="nofollow">Great Barrier Reef</a> could face yet more severe coral bleaching in the coming month, with areas badly hit by last year’s event at risk of death.</p>
<p>Images taken by local divers last week and shared exclusively with 
the Guardian by the Australian Marine Conservation Society show newly 
bleached corals discovered near Palm Island...</p><p><br /></p><p>The NOAA Coral Reef Watch’s forecast for the next four weeks has 
placed an even higher level alert on parts of the far northern, northern
 and central reef, indicating mortality is likely.</p>
<p>Corals south of Cairns, in the Whitsundays and parts of the far 
northern reef that were badly hit by last year’s mass bleaching event 
are at fatal risk.</p></blockquote><p><br /></p><br /><br />]]>

        <description><![CDATA[... also differences between ocean absorbing 'sun's' direct rays vs. 'atmosphere's' infrared radiation.<br />_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________<br /><br />Seems to me this place should be receiving way more traffic and discussion than it has.<br />I'd like to suggest that this could be a good forum for people to come with their serious climate questions to groups source them.<br />Here let me give an example of what I'm talking about.<br />__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________<br /><br /><br />1) &nbsp;Does the way I worded&nbsp;distinction&nbsp;in the opening sentence make sense?<br /><br />2) &nbsp;What do you make of this sentence (in regard to the Arctic Ocean):<br />&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; "The ocean emits more heat than it receives from the sun."<br /><br />3) &nbsp;Is that true on the&nbsp;face of it?<br />4) &nbsp;How significant is the omission of __?__ infrared radiation received by the oceans?<br /><br />5) &nbsp;What's the latest on how a melting ice cap is impacting the Arctic Ocean?<br />5a) &nbsp;Impact of newly exposed surface to ocean heat uptake in that region?<br />5b) &nbsp;Ocean&nbsp;evaporation and convection currents - how are they're impacting atmospheric dynamics?<br />5c) &nbsp;What's new on Jet Stream observations<br />5d) &nbsp;What's happening with Arctic Ocean currents currently?  <img alt="o" src="src" /> &nbsp; Now that there's easier access between Atlantic and Pacific Ocean waters?<br />5e) &nbsp;What major dynamic(s) am I missing here?]]>

        <description><![CDATA[From the <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.nasa.gov/feature/jpl/nasa-begins-study-of-australias-great-barrier-reef">NASA press release</a>:<br /><br /><div>CORAL's three-year mission combines aerial surveys using state-of-the-art airborne imaging spectrometer technology developed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California, with in-water validation activities. The mission will provide critical data and new models for analyzing reef ecosystems from a new perspective. CORAL will generate a uniform data set for a large sample of reefs across the Pacific Ocean. Scientists can use these data to search for trends between coral reef condition and the natural and human-produced biological and environmental factors that affect reefs.</div><div><br /></div><div>Over the next year, CORAL will survey portions of the Great Barrier Reef, along with reef systems in the main Hawaiian Islands, the Mariana Islands and Palau.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>In Australia, CORAL will survey six discrete sections across the length of the Great Barrier Reef, from the Capricorn-Bunker Group in the south to Torres Strait in the north. Two locations on the reef -- one north (Lizard Island Research Station) and one south (Heron Island Research Station) -- will serve as bases for in-water validation activities.
